memorandum of understanding was signed between SO Morocco and SOI. HRH Princess Lalla Amina, Head of SO Morocco and Member of the SO International Advisory Committee, presided the Moroccan side during the signing protocols, while Mr. Brady Lum, SOI President and COO, presided the SOI side. The signing of the protocols were attended by SOMENA Managing Director Eng. Ayman Abdel Wahab.

Thememorandum deals with the preparations for the SO Global Conference which will be held in the Moroccan city of Marrakech during June 2010 under the patronage of HRM King Mohammad VI of Morocco. It also aims at laying out the framework of collaboration and coordination between both parties in terms of aspects such as communication, exchange of data and information, documentation and following up the outcome of the preparation meetings before, during and after the conference.
According to the memorandum, both parties will take full commitment in identifying the operational procedures and rules intended to be adhered to throughout the phased implementation of the conference’s executive program.
Both parties will also committ to ensure success of the global event by mobilizing all necessary means. In this concern, they will both undertake work by taking all the actions needed for establishing a Conference Support Committee constituted of representatives of the SOI, SO Morocco and SO activists. Approving the referential specifications concerning the usage of SO trademarks and logos will also constitute a commitment for both parties to realize.
The memorandum furnishes a good opportunity for SO Morocco members to exchange and share their experiences with their counterparts in SOI and SOMENA. In this respect, all domains of planning, programming, management, communication and finance will be approached.
During the signing protocols, HRH Lalla Amina delivered a speech in which she said the naming of Marrakech to host the global event came in recognition of the city’s historical genuineness and cultural legacy. To further confirm her standpoint in this concern, HRH highlighted Marrakech’s personification of the splendid harmony between the past and present and its originated spirit of tolerance and diversity.
Having stated that the extra-ordinary meeting of the SOI board would be held in Marrakech prior to the convention of the Global Conference, HRH stressed that the success of the event will always be fully dependant on the quality of effort exerted by both parties of the memorandum. HRH further said, for such purpose to be achieved, the memorandum includes all arrangements intended to be taken in order to meet the commitments of each party in a manner that would reflect the ties of cooperation between them.
On his part, Mr. Brady Lum highlighted the signing of the memorandum as an “official announcement of one of our substantial and historic events throughout the past 41 years,” referring to the SO Global Conference 2010.
In his statement, Mr. Lum stressed that the conference would serve as an effective opportunity to assess the harvest of 10 years of hard work, sacrifices and intensive endeavors rendered by the SO movement in order to attain a peak level and increase the number of athletes, volunteers and families in 170 countries worldwide.
SOMENA Managing Director, Engineer Ayman Abdel Wahab, highlighted the convention of the SO Global Conference in Morocco as a “sound appreciation by the SO movement to the region and Morocco in specific.” He also pointed out one of the tasks of the event would be to lay out the features of the strategic plan 2011-2015 at the global level.
